Education & Research

The future of agriculture depends on capable, visionary leaders. Northwest Farm Credit Services understands the power of education and leadership training and supports professional development programs including:

Washington State University • Tree Fruit Initiative
WSU’s Tree Fruit Research and Extension, focused primarily on apples, cherries, pears and stone fruit, has served the industry regionally and worldwide for over 80 years with scientific breakthroughs. Northwest tree fruit growers wanted to improve their existing knowledge and technology relating to the crucial post-harvest period. A significant grant will allow WSU to enhance and update its post-harvest research facilities and equipment. The intent is to learn more about disease control, handling, storage and packaging of these valuable crops.

Montana State University • Ranch Management Program
Mention ranching in Montana, and you conjure images of animals grazing on a lush, open range under a big sky with snowcapped mountains as backdrop. To address the unique needs of ranchers in the state, the Northern Great Plains and the Intermountain West, Montana State University is creating a ranch management degreed program that couples animal and plant science, ecology and hydrology, business and public policy with continuing education to shape best practices across the Western landscape. Northwest FCS is privileged to be a partner from the start of this flagship program.
